We at Imvusa Plastics started with a Productivity SA Leadership Challenge Program in February 2022. We are currently still busy running the program and implementing the procedures as we go through the program. To date, we have completed several challenges with successful implementations. I have applied for a postponement of the program at the moment due to the revamping of the whole premises that started in July/ August 2022. The revamping started with the outside fencing which still needs to be completed. They are currently busy with the buildings and started removing the asbestos roof sheets in mid-October and this will still be a lengthy operation as it is 4 buildings they’re focusing on.
On our side, we still need to move out of our building as soon as they have replaced the roof sheets of our next-door building which will also form part of our operation to move our Blow molding department in there and the PET department in our current building. We were told it would take plus minus 6 weeks to complete the roof of the next-door building and then the rest of the teams would come in to complete the electricity, flooring, etc. This will probably take another 4 weeks to have the one building fully complete. Also, bear in mind that the operations on the roofing were delayed as there are internal issues as well as outstanding roof sheets the contractors are waiting on.
Thereafter we will move into the next-door building as they will have to come in and complete this building as soon as we move out. We are looking to complete both buildings in March / April next year if all goes well. We would therefore like for the Productivity SA Program to be reinstated by then as it would be easier for us to implement the 5 S’s as well as the ISO 9001:2015 program we are also currently busy with in both plants. At the moment it is very difficult to implement everything as we are so cramped with all the machines in one building.
On the PET side, we have a joint venture with a reputable local business in Atlantis and we currently have one PET machine already installed. The second machine is due for arrival in January 2023. We are looking forward to all the structural changes as well as new business for the new year.
We also received training in Awareness on ISO9001:2015 Quality Management Systems in October 2022 and are busy implementing all the procedures systematically. We are hoping to acquire our ISO accreditation in 2023 to meet global standards for our business to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of the products and services provided.
